Beginning Jan. 1, 2021, Missouri’s minimum wage rate increased 85 cents per hour to $10.30 from $9.45 in 2020, boosting the earnings of 200,000 adult hourly workers in Missouri.

The minimum wage in Illinois increased this year to $11 an hour. It was raised to $9.25 on Jan. 1, 2020 and $10 an hour starting last July 1, and is set to rise by $1 a year until it reaches $15 in 2025.

Missouri’s minimum wage increase is part of a five-year series of raises voters approved by a wide margin in 2018. The minimum wage will increase each year until it hits $12 an hour in 2023.

Retail or service businesses whose annual gross income is less than $500,000 are not required to pay the state minimum wage rate and may pay employees a lower rate.
