Collinsville – Southern Illinois Labor supporters have been talking a lot about how they need to get involved in the state’s race for governor to support pro-labor Gov. Pat Quinn against Republican billionaire Bruce Rauner.
They’ll have a chance to step up on Aug. 1, when the Painters and Allied Trades District Council 58 will host a fund-raising rally for Quinn at the council’s office at 940 California Ave., Collinsville.
The union issued this call to arms:
“Labor in Illinois needs your help! Right-to-work candidate Bruce Rauner is running for governor. This billionaire has plenty of money to fund his anti-worker platform. If we can help re-elect Gov. Pat Quinn, we can end the RTW battle in Illinois for the next four years.”
The rally will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The location is in north Collinsville at the south end of Woodland Park, just east of Illinois 159.
Painters District Council Business Manager Gregg Smith said its vital that unions and their members help Quinn get re-elected to keep Illinois out of the Right-to-Work battles for at least the next four years.
“Rauner’s strongly anti-worker,” he said. “If he gets in, it would energize the national RTW forces, and we can’t afford that.”
Suggested donation levels are $250 for individual tickets and sponsorships:$500 for Friend, $1,000 for Sponsor, $5,000 for Host and $10,000 for Chair. Checks may be made payable and sent to Taxpayers for Quinn, 676 N. LaSalle, Suite 340, Chicago IL 60654.
