SLUH nurses take their concerns to donors at SSM Health fundraising gala

Clayton, MO – Union nurses at SSM St. Louis University Hospital (SLUH) and their allies with Jobs with Justice demonstrated outside the SSM Health Foundation Fundraising Gala outside of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel here Sept. 30 to protest the administration’s refusal to address RNs’ concerns about patient care, safe staffing, and workplace violence. The demonstration followed a one-day strike at SLUH hospital on Sept. 25. SLU Hospital nurses have been in negotiations since May 2023 for a new contract with little to no movement on key issues. Their contract expired on June 15, 2023. They are urging management to invest in nursing staff and agree to a contract that addresses nurse recruitment and retention, fair compensation and workplace violence prevention. – Jenn Dean photo
