Richmond Heights, MO – IBEW Local 1 is picketing the Residences at Boland Place Apartments over the general contractor, Impact Strategies use of Birkel Electric, which does not pay its employees the area standards, to perform electrical work on the project.

The Richmond Heights development is a prevailing wage project consisting of 175 units and a large parking garage.

Local 1 Business Representative Dave Roth reached out to Impact before the contract was awarded and was told it was “out of their hands” whom the electrical contractor would be. All of the sub-contractors on the project are union except the electrical contractor.

Local 1 placed a picket on Nov. 8 and all of the union tradespeople on the job except the Carpenters honored the picket, including Sheet Metal Workers, Drywall Tapers, Painters, Roofers, Insulators, Sprinkler Fitters, Plumbers, Laborers and most importantly the Operating Engineer operating the crane lifting the pre-fab walls for the project.

“I would personally like to thank the trades people that honored our picket,” Roth said. “It made a huge statement to the general contractor seeing over 50 people leave the site.”

  • If we all stick together, we can be a force. The carpenter leadership has divided us through the years, and when they started 57, what makes people think they won’t do the same with tinners, operators or plumbers?

Thank you to all that saw this as a line in the sand and did not cross!
