The Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council has endorsed Democratic nominee Bob Daiber for Madison County board chairman.

Daiber is the longtime regional superintendent for schools who ran in the primary for governor in 2018. He is known for seeing that government contracts go to union contractors whenever possible to assure quality work, done on time.

“Bob Daiber is a champion for working people,” said Scot Luchtefeld, president of the Labor Council. “Throughout his career in public service, Bob Daiber has always put the needs of working people ahead of special interests, and he will do so as Madison County Board Chairman.”

Daiber has already been endorsed by the AFL-CIO’s 12th District COPE. He is challenging Republican incumbent Kurt Prenzler on the November ballot.

“We continue to build a broad-based, grassroots coalition in this campaign,” Daiber said. “With the help of organizations such as the Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council, we will restore integrity to Madison County government and eliminate the corrupt practices that have plagued it in recent years.

“I am honored to receive this endorsement, which demonstrates my continued commitment to collective bargaining rights and the fair treatment of working men and women.”

Joe Eble, recording secretary for the council, said Daiber will restore integrity and competence to Madison County government. “We are proud to support his candidacy and look forward to helping him put county government back into the hands of working people,” Eble said.
