Stagehands Local 6 pickets Awakening Events show at Skyview Drive-In

Belleville, IL – Stagehands (IATSE) Local 6 is again picketing Awakening Events for using a non-union, out-of-town stage company paying substandard wages for an Oct. 14 Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapmen and Mac Powell show at the Skyview Drive-In. Local 6 picketed a previous show at the drive-in on Sept. 17. Stagehands and other entertainment and event industry workers have been crushed by the COVID-19 pandemic, with live shows and events canceled across the country since March, said Michael Beckman, business manager for Local 6. Awakening Events, a Christian music act promoter, is charging $100 to $175 per car for the shows at the Skyview, but has refused to hire even one local union stagehand for the events.
