Pevely, MO – In hopes of lighting up children’s faces this holiday season, members of United Steel Workers (USW) Local 30 at Ardagh Group teamed up with the local Marines “Toys for Tots” to collect six full boxes of toys for kids in the community.

“Toy Sheriff” Ben Harman, a member of Local 30 at the company, helped organize the toy drive. Harman is a longtime Labor leader and organizer who has worked with UAW Local 1760 (which represented workers at the Fenton Chrysler plant), AFSCME and other unions.

“We wanted to spark some solidarity among our members,” Harman said. “Unions do so much more than represent members on benefits and good working wages. They and their members help give back to the communities where they live. Our members were really excited to help with the toy drive this year.”

Local 30 President Chad Smith said he was really pleased with the effort. “Everyone really stepped up and did an excellent job,” he said. “It was our first major attempt as a union to make a difference in the community.”

Ardagh Group is a glass and metal manufacturing facility for consumer brands. USW Local 30 represents about 300 Glass, Mold and Plastic (GMP) workers at the plant under Steelworkers District 11.
