Labor supporting attorney was murdered in his home

A public visitation for Labor supporting attorney and community leader Randy Gori will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 110 N. Buchanan St., Edwardsville. The funeral mass and burial will be private.

Gori, a strong supporter of the Labor Movement, was stabbed to death at his home on Jan. 4. His car was taken.

Timothy Banowitz of Wentzville was arrested and charged with murder, armed robbery and aggravated unlawful restraint. Banowitz was a student at St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

Police said it appeared that Gori had saved the lives of two children in the home.

Kristina Zahorik, president of the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association (IDCCA) , issued this statement:

“Everyone at the IDCCA is devastated and shocked at the loss of long-time friend Randy Gori. His compassion for helping his community extended well beyond the Democratic Party. He was very active donating his time and energy to improve the lives of his community. Randy was much more than a lawyer. His generosity and compassion were endless.

“Randy supported countless Democratic candidates and causes throughout Illinois. He was a true believer in Democratic values. He served as a precinct committee person in Edwardsville and as a member of the IDCCA Leadership Circle. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Randy’s family, friends, and the Madison County Democratic Party.”
