The Warren County Labor Club recently donated a truckload of food for students in the Wright City R-11 School District as part of the district’s Operation Backpack program.

The club, its members and the local business community stepped up for the effort, which helps fill the gap by providing backpacks of nutritious, non-perishable meals to be eaten by students over the weekend when resources may be limited.

School officials were touched by the donation,” said Club President Rod Herrmann. “They said the food collected will feed 92 students, and for some, it’s the only meal they will get over the weekend.”

Hermann said district officials told him the greatest time of need for students is in October. He said the club plans to make the food drive for the district a yearly event to benefit Operation Backpack in October.

If you would like to donate, items and monetary donations may be dropped off at any Wright City school or the central office. For more information, email allisonlconn@gmail.com or cari.biggs@wrightcity.k12.mo.us.
