A union night boxing fundraiser originally planned for Darrin Weiss, an Iron Workers Local 396 retiree who was battling cancer, will now benefit his daughter. Brother Weiss, of Bonita Springs, Fla., passed away on Dec. 15 at age 60.

Frankie D’s Boxing Club is hosting the amateur boxing night on Saturday, Jan. 15. Kirk Douglas, Jr., a 27-year member of Iron Workers Local 396, owns the non-profit boxing club, which is located in Moscow Mills.

“The group of iron workers who have been working on the event have decided to give the donation to Darrin’s daughter, who lives in St. Louis,” Douglas said. “She has just graduated from college and is getting her life started. She and her mother will attend the event.”

The fundraiser, which will include basket raffles, a 50/50 raffle, food, beer and soda, will be held at the Florissant Civic Center at 1 James J. Eagan Drive in Florissant. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the first bout begins at 7 p.m.

Douglas said the event will feature St. Louis-area boxers competing with boxers around the United States. Two of the bouts will include Local 396’s Corey Hendricks, a 20-plus-year member, and Koben Callaway, a first-year apprentice.

Ringside tickets for the event are sold out, but general admission tickets are $25 a person and $250 a table. Call 636-887-5319 for tickets. Credit cards or cash are accepted.
