Elevator Constructors Local 3 celebrates 125 years

Elevator Constructors Local 3 celebrated its 125^th anniversary Sept. 8 with a gala at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in St. Louis. Business Manager Costel Zamfir thanked retirees, former and current officers and the membership for making the union what it is today.

“It takes a lot more than luck to be standing where we are,” Zamfir said. “We have those to thank that went before us. We might not be in such great shape today if it was not for your service. We thank all of our retirees for the work that you did and for your support of this local in the past and into the present.”
Other speakers for the evening included retired Local 3 Business Manager George Lodes and International Union of Elevator Constructors General President Frank Christensen.

“I feel lucky to be a member of this local,” Zamfir said, noting that 95 percent of the work completed in Local 3’s territory is completed with Local 3 Union Labor. “It makes my job a lot less stressful when the bench is empty.” – Labor Tribune photo
