Paul Winslow, former international vice president of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, died Dec. 7, 2023

After graduating from Notre Dame High School, he attended Utica College until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1968. Despite being offered the opportunity to serve stateside, Paul chose to serve overseas in Vietnam. He knew that if he did not go, someone else would be sent in his place.

Brother Winslow, of Arnold, dedicated his career to improving the lives of working men and women. For 40 years he worked as a union organizer (and later as an International Vice President) for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. First in Utica, then in Springfield, Mass. and finally in St. Louis, he fought to make sure his members had fair wages and better benefits.

His dedication to the causes he believed in permeated his life.  Throughout the years he worked for the reunification of Ireland (26+6=1), promoted the social justice causes of the Catholic Church, and assisted in the election of Democratic candidates at all levels of government.

He is survived by his sister, Roseanne Winslow Murphy, of Plattsburgh, N.Y. and his children and grandchildren: Cara and Todd Mayberry (Elwood and Finn), of Advance, Mo., Patrick & Amanda Winslow (Chavelle, Michele, Liberty, Alexander and Joseph, Jr.) of Ludlow, Mass., and Dominic and Emily Winslow (Benjamin and Charles), of St. Louis.

He is also survived by his stepchildren and grandchildren: Tammy and Jake Fletchall (Brittney, Brody, Sidney, and Alec), Jenny and Shane Patterson (Tyler and Madison) and Jerry Bullock (Brackelle, Persia & Gage), all of Hutchinson, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Rita (Barry) Winslow; his wife Rebecca (Pope) Winslow; his brother-in-law, Gary Murphy; his cousin/extra sister Maria (Mia) Brazill; and his best friend Thomas Bach; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A funeral service was held Dec. 13 at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton followed by interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
