Danielle Lee Gift, a Laborers Local 110 apprentice, passed away suddenly March 16, 2021 at age 29.

Sister Gift, a graduate of the St. Louis Building & Construction Trades Council’s Building Union Diversity (BUD) program, joined Local 110 in March 2019. She was employed as a screed man for Pace Construction.

Danielle was a member of BUD 16,” officials with the Building Union Diversity (BUD) program shared on their Facebook page. “The BUD community is saddened by this loss and have her family in our thoughts. We will miss you Danielle.”

Operating Engineers Local 513 journeywoman Windy Chafin described Gift, who had recently returned to St. Louis Community College to pursue a degree in Skilled Trades Industrial Occupations Technology, as a hard worker with a bright personality.

“I was so damn proud of this young lady,” said Chafin, who serves as a mentor for the BUD program. “She turned her life completely around and came to become a union laborer through the BUD program. She was always fun to work with and she picked up on her job quickly. She had such a colorful personality.”

Sister Gift is survived by her two young boys, Shannon R. Sommer and Ashton M. Ave-Lallemant; her mother, Denise (Boisseau) Gift; her father, Daniel W. Gift; her aunts, Michelle (David) Shelton, Yvonne (Clayton, Sr.) Varley; her great aunt, Darla Lohman; and many cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Julius B. Boisseau, Connie A. Boisseau, Douglas Gift, Greta “Gem” Gift; and her brother Gregory C. Gift.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with expenses and a trust fund for Sister Gift’s two children. Visit gofundme.com/f/denise-gift-legal-financial-obligations-fund to donate.
